Another Reason to Love Rhubarb

We’re often asked:  “Why did the people at DRY choose to make a rhubarb soda?”  After hearing our founder’s nostalgic stories about her grandmother’s rhubarb pie and tasting the soda’s slightly tart, full flavor, those in question usually understand.  We were similarly intrigued when we found a rhubarb inspired necklace.  The pendant is made of fused glass layered over “silver inclusions,” and hangs on a sterling chain.  The creator of the necklace notes that it changes colors in different lighting.  Find yours at www.etsy.com.

Font Game

Here at DRY, Arial is the king of fonts, but that doesn’t mean we don’t respect and appreciate others.  Think you know what’s what in the world of Genevas, Helveticas, Lucidas and Verdanas?  Then prove it! Test your font recognition skills using “the rather difficult Font Game” from ilovetypography.com.  A random word is displayed in an unnamed font, then the player is asked to identify it among four possible answers.  Submit your score to their Hall of Fame you just may end up with a 24-hour-long worldwide record.  Designers, marketing gurus, ad geniuses and artists – we dare you to give it a shot!  fontgame.ilovetypography.com

When we found these planters online, we quickly decided they were too cool to pass up.  You’ll find three pieces in the “Factory Frames” series designed by Chiaki Murata.  Each is made of ABS resin – the bright white and smooth material meant to sharply contrast with the soft, lush, green grass planted inside.  We found the growing process was a bit difficult at first, but our green thumbs proved themselves eventually.  Pairs well with Lemongrass DRY.  Get yours here.

It’s All About ME

A few of us recently had the chance to visit Austin, Texas, for a media tour, at which time we were introduced to ME Television.  “ME” stands for Music and Entertainment, but instead of taking on the whole industry, their network highlights regional artists, hosts local live shows and promotes community-oriented creativity in art, film and dance.  It’s no surprise this idea was conceptualized in Austin!  Considered to be a national prototype for similar networks around the country, the people at ME hope to expand to new regions within a few years.  www.metelevision.com

whos_your_city.gif

Our original draw to “Who’s Your City” involved the Singles Map, which plots the places in the US with the strongest ratios of single men to women and visa-versa.  After looking at the book’s site, we found the it contains county-specific information and recommendations applicable to families, empty nesters and singles.  Author Richard Florida argues that even in the face of globalization, the place a person resides has a highly important impact on the path they take through life.  Mr. Florida seems to think Seattle is creative and we have no choice but to agree!  Take a few minutes to browse around the site, look closely at your city (or a new one) and grab the book while you’re at it.  www.creativeclass.com
